Preventing Eye Infections

The winter often brings along with it more chances for illness and infections. One, perhaps, less serious category is eye infections.

But they happen to be very uncomfortable and irritating. So you definitely want to do all you can to avoid them or treat it properly if you get one.

Eye Infection Symptoms

If your eye is bothering you, it may already be a symptom of an eye infection.

More specifically, though, eye infections will cause you to have itchy, watery, red, and/or dry eyes. Pain is another symptom. They can also make your eyes or the area surrounding them swollen. Your vision be also become blurred as a result.

Types of Eye Infections

While eye infections are often not that serious, this isn’t always the case. So you should always have them checked by a qualified doctor.

Eye infections can be caused by a virus, bacteria, or fungus.

The latter is less common. But it can happen through wearing dirty contact lenses or coming into contact with something contaminated. This form of infection can also be more serious.

Preventing an Eye Infection

Hygiene plays an important role in preventing eye infections.

Here are some guidelines.

  • Wash your hands before touching your eyes or lenses.
  • Don’t use the same linen that someone with an eye infection used.
  • Don’t use the same towels that someone with an eye infection used.
  • Remove your contact lenses before you go swimming.
  • Don’t sleep with contact lenses.

Eye infections aren’t fun, but there’s some easy precautions we can take. So why not make it easier on our eyes.
