Caring For Your Kids While Taking Care Of Your Parents
Are you feeling stuck between caring for your kids while taking care of your parents?
If you are, you may be relieved to know that there’s a term for that. It’s called the sandwich generation. I’ll bet you can guess why.
Unfortunately, there’s no quick solution for this circumstance. But, there are ways to make it more manageable.
Here are 3 suggestions:
Special Time
Although you may be feeling like you’ve reached your limits by the time you get to see your kids, it may help to designate special time for them in advance. This can help you prepare both mentally and physically and make the most of your time together.
Talk to your Kids
Your kids may not like what’s going on but if they’re old enough to understand you may want to have a conversation about it. By explaining why you’re so busy with grandma or grandpa, they can start to make sense of the situation.
Involvement
Are there any opportunities for getting you children involved in the helping? If you can get them on-board, you’ll get to spend more time with them while caring for your parents. Here at Elmwood Hills Healthcare Center, for example, we’re always happy to have your little ones come visit.
