Showing Appreciation On National Senior Citizens Day

It’s been 30 years since America’s first National Senior Citizens Day, but its importance hasn’t changed since then, at least not at Elmwood Hills Healthcare Center.

Why do we Observe National Senior Citizens Day?

“Throughout our history, older people have achieved much for our families, our communities, and our country,” wrote President Ronald Regan in his proclamation on August 19, 1988.

“For all they have achieved throughout life and for all they continue to accomplish, we owe older citizens our thanks and a heartfelt salute.”

Showing Appreciation

Although showing appreciation is important every day, it is especially the case on National Senior Citizens Day. On this day we owe it to them.

So put together a list of things you appreciate about your loved one and what they’ve done for you. And make sure to let them know how much they mean to you. Prepare yourself beforehand and go make their day (and perhaps your’s too).
